Method to apply for Driving License online

One can apply for a driving license online. Simply visit the official website of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and follow the steps mentioned below:

• Search for the official government website of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

• You will see the Drivers/ Learners License option under License Related Services on the website's landing page.

• By selecting the Drivers/ Learners License option, you will land on the page displaying a drop down with the list of States.

• Select your state from where the driving license service is to be taken, and press continue.

• Now you will come across all the available options such as applying for a learner license, applying for a Driving license, Applying for DL renewal, etc.

• Select the "Apply for Driving License" from the options for commencing the application procedure.

• Instructions will be displayed for submitting your driving license application form. Read the instructions thoroughly and click on continue.

• As soon as you click on the continue, you will be requested a registered mobile number for authentication purposes. You will be verified with a one-time password.

• Once you are validated, you will be asked if you have a Learner's License, a Foreign Driving License, or a Defense License. Check mark the relevant box and continue.

• Depending on what you chose in the preceding step, you will be asked for the Learner's License Number, Foreign Driving License Number, or Defense License Number.

• You will also be expected to insert your date of birth in the format DD/MM/YYYY. Once you fill in the required fields, click on OK.

• You will now be directed to the application form for a Driving License to fill up your details such as full name, age, address, and other relevant information.

• Once you are done with the details, you will be required to upload all the aiding documents like identity proof, age proof, address proof, etc.

• You may be demanded to upload a passport size picture and signature. Scanned copies of the same will be needed for the upload.

• Once you are done with the uploads, you will be requested to pick the time slot for the appointment. Please select the comfortable date and time to go directly to the Regional Transport Office (R.T.O.) and appear for the Driving License test.

• Make a payment for submitting the driving license application form, and your application will be successfully transferred to the R.T.O.

• Ensure to reach on time to appear for the test on your appointment day.

Upon finishing the application form and reviewing the information, submit the final application. An auto-generated Application Number will be displayed on the screen on successful submission. Note the number to check the application's status and for future reference.

• Learner's License (A Learner's License is valid for six months from the date of issue).

Age proof: Any one of the following can be presented as proof of age:

1. Pan Card.

2. Voter's identity card.

3. Passport.

4. School matriculation certificate.

5. Birth certificate.

Address proof: Any one of the following documents can be presented as proof of address:

1. Passport.

2. Voter's identity card.

3. Ration card.

4. Life insurance policy.

5. Utility bills such as electricity, telephone bill, or gas bill.

6. Payslip issued by Central or State Government.

Driving school certificate (if applying for transport vehicle driving license).

• All documents of the vehicle to be used for the driving test.

2. Car insurance proof

3. Fitness certificate (for transport vehicles)

4. Tax payment proof

Similarly, one can also submit an online application for the appointment of a Learners' License test. Having a Learners' License is a prerequisite in order to get a Driving License in India. • Also, select the applicable option from the three options noted below:

1. The Applicant does not hold a Driving/ Learner License.

2. The Applicant holds Driving License.

3. The Applicant holds Learner License.

• Then, select the relevant RTO Office listed in the drop down menu to get the available authorized License Processing Centers (LPC)/RTO-Camps for the issue of Learner License. Checkmark the nearby camp from the list table and click submit.

Note: New Learner License is not issued at RTO Office.

• As soon as you click on the continue, you will be requested a registered mobile number for authentication purposes. You will be verified with a one-time password.

• You will be now directed to the application form for Learner License to fill up your details such as your name, age, address, and other relevant information.

• After successfully submitting all the required details Application Reference Slip will get generated.

• The next step is to upload the required supporting documents, passport size photograph, and your signature. You will be needed scanned copies of these documents for upload.

• Once you are done uploading documents, book the appointment date and time by selecting a time slot from the available timetable.

• Make a payment for submitting the Learners' License application form.

• Physical Fitness Declaration (form 1).

• Medical certificate (Form 1-A).
